Conservative-run Derbyshire County Council is proposing to hand over 20 of our 45 libraries to communities to run on a rapidly-reducing grant, with nothing after 4 years, putting them at grave danger of closure. And almost every library in Derbyshire will see their opening hours cut.
Our libraries are vitally important to local communities – not only for books, but for computer access for people who can’t afford it. Please help by signing the petition to ensure the Council have to debate their proposal fully:
OR: you can download and print your own copy of the petition here: DCC library petition general
Please return the petition to: FREEPOST RTYJ-UGYA-LJAH, Ruth George MP, Crowther House, Buxton SK17 6AW by Thursday 5 July
The libraries proposed to be handed over are: Borrowash, Etwall, Clowne, Duffield, Creswell, Brimington, Whaley Bridge, Killamarsh, Melbourne, Hadfield, Holmewood, Gamesley, Whitwell, Wingerworth, Pinxton, Hayfield, Tideswell, Old Whittington, Somercotes and Woodville.
We need 7,500 signatures by 5th July – we can do it if we all work together. Please share the link above on social media – anyone in Derbyshire can sign.
Thank you for your support.
