Save our libraries

My petition against the proposed cuts to Derbyshire’s  library service is now live on Derbyshire County Council’s website, you can sign it by clicking here

The full wording of the petition is:

We the undersigned call on DCC to keep all libraries within the managed service, with direct funding and trained librarians

Save our Libraries

Derbyshire County Council proposes reducing opening hours for almost all libraries and handing over 20 to community management with a rapidly reducing grant and nothing after 4 years: Borrowash, Etwall, Clowne, Duffield, Creswell, Brimington, Whaley Bridge, Killamarsh, Melbourne, Hadfield, Holmewood, Gamesley, Whitwell, Wingerworth, Pinxton, Hayfield, Tideswell, Old Whittington, Somercotes and Woodville.

If volunteers are not able to provide the service they will close. Our libraries provide access to books, local information, computers and the internet, which are vital for many services, including Universal Credit. Council funding and trained librarians are essential to guarantee our library service. We therefore call on Derbyshire County Council to maintain these libraries as part of the council managed service.
